The Curious Métisse
My name is Yowali and I am the author of The Curious Métisse. This section will give you a little insight into this blog, and also about me. Take some time to explore the blog, read something interesting, and feel free to reach out if you would like to collaborate on a project together.
Who am I?
I’m Yowali, a young woman originally from Belgium. I have recently moved to Toronto, Canada and I am now working in association management. This blog is thus a side-activity, which I hope will give me the opportunity to speak up about issues that I hold dear.
What is The Curious Métisse about?
The Curious Métisse started as a blog that did not focus on a specific topic, but rather includes a variety of themes that were important to me. It started as a way for me to express my emotions, to show those I know how I feel as a visible minority, as a young brown woman in a white man's world. Moving to Canada however threw everything out the window. I feel different now. The Curious Metisse may become more personal. It may become a venue for me to reflect and to grow. Who knows. I don't.
Why did I start The Curious Métisse?
I started The Curious Métisse following an increasing feeling of uneasiness regarding my own identity. I grew unsatisfied with the overall status-quo about race and discrimination that has settled in Europe and I wanted to raise awareness on themes and topics that are relevant at the individual level.
What do I hope to achieve through the blog?
I had loads of ideas about this blog. I had strong ideals and utopian ideas about changing the world. Life caught up with me, and I now feel different. If anything, the Curious Metisse is, I think, going to become a platform for me to express myself. To write, to get inspired, to remind myself of what's important. So go explore, and don't hesitate to let me know what you think.
